When you need to control an outcome, ask a closed-ended question. The other person will feel comfortably in charge; in actuality, you will win regardless of which option they choose.

Do you prefer to sign the contract with the blue pen or the black pen? Would you like to meet on Friday at 11:15am or 11:30am? Do you prefer going to a museum or a concert for our first date? Would you like to test drive the Model X or the Model S?
