Divorce from the details

How exactly you achieve a goal does not matter; all that matters is that you achieve it. Therefore, attach yourself to the critical requirements of your goal — your “must have’s” — and selflessly divorce from the details that do not matter — the “it would have been nice to have’s.”

If your goal is to feed homeless veterans and help them find jobs, you may envision donations coming from members of your community. When donations come from a conservative Republican Tea Party group you hate, do not fret. Where the donations come from is a detail you wanted — not one you needed. You can still feed and find employment for the veterans. That was your goal.
