Be here now

Guess what? When it comes right down to it, there you are. Whatever you wind up doing, that’s what you’ve wound up doing. Whatever you are thinking right now, that’s what’s on your mind. Whatever has happened to you, it’s already happened. The only question is: how are you going to handle it? In other words — now what? Like it or not, this moment is all we really have to work with. Yet we all too easily conduct our lives as if forgetting, momentarily, that we are here. — Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn

Learn from the past, and plan for the future, but spend 95% of your time focusing on this present moment. That’s where the magic happens: right here, right now. Psychologists and Buddhists call it mindfulness.

If you are overweight, do not worry about starting yet another diet — that’s living in the future. Do not regret all of the fatty meals you ate — that’s living in the past. Just say, “Right now I can easily put on sneakers and walk around the block.”
